LEICESTERSHIRE COUNTY COUNCIL

DISTRICT OF NORTH WEST LEICESTERSHIRE

B4116 (GALLOWS LANE, MEASHAM) AND C7117 (LEICESTER ROAD, SWEPSTONE ROAD, MAIN STREET, MEASHAM, SWEPSTONE AND HEATHER) – IMPLEMENTATION OF 50MPH SPEED LIMIT

STATEMENT OF REASONS

All County roads that are assigned the national speed limit have been reviewed to identify those with an accident rate higher than the national average. As a result, the roads B4116 (Gallows Lane, Measham) and the C7117 (Leicester road, Swepstone Road, Main Street, Measham, Swepstone and Heather) has been identified to have a total number of accidents above the national average. Therefore, to increase general safety and reduce the accident rate, the County Council proposes to reduce the speed limit from 60mph to 50mph.

The existing 40mph speed limit within the village of Swesptone will remain unchanged.

See attached plan.
