The Family Monster Walk is coming to Coalville

The Family Monster Walk is coming to Coalville

You and your family are invited to join us at...the February half term Family Monster Walk. We challenge you to complete the monster trail!

What is the Monster Family Walk and what should we expect?

This new event for 2020 aims to get more families active together outdoors in Coalville. The day will see the Monsters, which were first created by local schools as part of last year's Timber festival, out and about in Coalville Forest Adventure Park for families to find as part of the 1.3km Monster Trail. There will also be a Monster's village where local providers including our Health and Wellbeing team, the National Forest, and Everyone Active will be providing more information on how you can get active outdoors for free or indoors for low cost along with some giveaways. As well as all of this, if your kids (under 12 years old) can complete the monster trail they will be entered into our Monster prize draw and stand the chance of winning one of our great prizes. Also, each child finishing the trail will be given a free goody bag which will include a certificate, water bottle, piece of play equipment, gift vouchers and more.

When and where is it?

The Family Monster Walk will be held on Sunday 16th February 2020 between 10.30am-1.30pm. Families can arrive any time within this period to complete and enjoy their monster trail. When you arrive just visit the control desk, which will be located in the monster village, to collect your guide and then when you finish return your completed guide to the same control desk to collect your children's (under 12 years) free goody bag and to be entered into the prize draw.

The event will be held at Coalville Forest Adventure park (Urban Forest Park Linden Way, Coalville, LE67 3JY) which is only 5-10 minutes on foot from the town centre off of Linden Way. The Forest Adventure Park provides a circular walk with loads of lovely wildlife to see and there is plenty of parking and an accessible toilet will be available during the event.

How do we sign-up?

To sign-up please follow this link and complete our online form here *coming soon*. Be quick as there are only 150 spaces available!

If you have any problems or questions with our form or sign-up please contact Emily on: or 01530 454755.

Now if you have seen this and signed up, please share it with someone else!

The Monster trail will be a circular 1.3km walk around the adventure park. All of the paths on our route are well surfaced with only a small portion of the route taking place on gravel and short grass. We advise that you wear footwear that is comfortable and has good grip, but we do not think you will require wellie boots, unless you prefer. As the event is in February, depending on the weather, you may need to wrap up.

How much does it cost?

Our Family Monster walk is FREE...and you get lots of freebies whilst you are there.

Who can take part and how long is it?

This event is for everyone and we would like to encourage all ages and abilities to come along and join in. The kids could come on their scooters, or with the push chair. The site is also accessible for wheelchair users so please bring your whole family.

Our Monster Trail is approximately 1.3km (0.8 miles) in length and we expect that it will take you and your family between 25-35 minutes to complete. There is no rush though and as you go around take your time to see what the monsters are up to and explore the site.

How do you get there?

The event will be held at Coalville Forest Adventure park (Urban Forest Park Linden Way, Coalville, LE67 3JY) which is only 5-10 minutes on foot from the town centre off of Linden Way.

Will there be parking and toilets available?

The site has parking for approx. 40-50 cars and there will be an accessible toilet with baby changing available on the day.

Why is there a Monster Walk this year?

We have introduced the Family Monster Walk this year as we would like to encourage more of our communities to, especially those that are not at the minute, take advantage of the great outdoor spaces and National Forest areas around Coalville to help them stay active and healthy. We would also really like to encourage our young people to start creating active habits now. We have all heard about the benefits of being physically active, with it found to lower your chances of suffering from long term conditions such as heart disease and type 2 diabetes, along with a lower risk of suffering from depression and dementia, as well as increased confidence and mood plus much more, but do you know how you and your family can be? Sometimes you might think that staying active can be expensive, especially for the whole family, but if you know how and where you could stay active outdoors for free its more achievable. So this event will give you some ideas and information, plus showing you a new site you may not have visited before, on where you could go for a walk, run, cycle or even workout. We also hope that this event may become part of a wider network of events, so help us to make it successful by signing up!

We have some other questions, who can we ask?
